BEST VIEWED IN HD AND FULLSCREEN (with scaling off)

Midnight Sun: A natural phenomenon occurring in the summer months north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle where the sun never fully sets and remains visible 24 hours a day.

This short time lapse film was shot during the Icelandic Midnight Sun in June of 2011.

For 17 days I travelled solo around the entire island shooting almost 24 hours, sleeping in the car, and eating whenever I had the time. During my days shooting this film I shot 38,000 images, travelled some 2900 miles, and saw some of the most amazing, beautiful, and indescribable landscapes on the planet. Iceland is absolutely one of the most beautiful and unusual places you could ever imagine. Especially during the Midnight Sun when the quality of light hitting the landscape is very unusual, and very spectacular.

Iceland is a landscape photographers paradise and playground, and should be number 1 on every photographers must visit list. Iceland during the Midnight Sun is in sort of a permanent state of sunset. The sun never full sets and travels horizontally across the horizon throughout the night, as can be seen in the opening shot and at the :51 second mark in the video.

During the Arctic summer, sunset was at midnight and sunrise was at 3am. The Arctic summer sun provided 24 hours a day of light, with as much as 6 hours daily of “Golden light”. Once the sun had set it wouldn’t even get dark enough for the stars to come out, and they don’t start to reappear until August.

My advice to everyone out there, photographer or not, is simple… You MUST visit Iceland sometime during your lifetime. You will never regret it.

On my 3rd time-lapse video of the Eastern Sierra, I focused on night time shooting. During the last week of June, the Milky Way started to make daily appearances on the northern hemisphere, right after sunset and without any interference from the moon. During eight consecutive and exhausting nights in near total darkness, I saw and/or felt deers, rabbits and coyotes passing near-by and once, after shinning a small flash light from my iPhone at two red dots, I saw a big bear just a few feet away, which prompted me to run to my car, leaving all my equipment and gear behind. I did not return until sunrise to pick everything up. Truly scary stuff!!

Flying High is a compilation of a lot of my favorite shots from this past year, and my first fully timelapse reel. I’ve become completely fascinated with timelapse photography this past year, and I’ve been able to get out quite a bit.

There’s such an excitement in going out and really thinking about how you want to set up your shot, and putting so much time and creativity into the setup; & then not really knowing if you got it until you go home the next morning. It almost kinda reminds me of shooting film, when I couldn’t wait to get those slides back.

I wrote and recorded “Flying High” the song recently, and had been excited from the beginning to put some imagery to it. I really love how the timelapse works with the music.

I have to give a huge thanks to Tom Lowe for his incredible inspiration, and his unparalleled generosity. I hadn’t ever really dabbled in timelapse before meeting Tom, and his work was so inspiring, and he was so generous with his knowledge, that I become totally obsessed

I also want to give a huge thanks to Eric Kessler for really believing in me and helping me take my timelapse to the next level. His support has really allowed me to expand my own artistic vision, and he’s one of the nicest most genuine guys I’ve ever met.
